Roger W. Smith is a writer and independent scholar based in New York City. His experience includes freelance writing and editing, business writing, book reviewing, translating, and the teaching of writing and literature as an adjunct professor at St. John’s University.
Mr. Smith’s interests include personal essays and opinion pieces; American and world literature; culture, especially books and reading; classical music; current issues that involve social, moral, and philosophical views; and independent scholarship. He hosts a personal blog — rogersgleanings.com — as well as separate websites devoted to the author Theodore Dreiser and the sociologist and social philosopher Pitirim A. Sorokin.
My interest in Sorokin dates from my early years as a student; it has persisted. Please note my essay on Sorokin, posted here at
Roger W. Smith, “Sorokin (Сорокин)”
which explains how my interest developed and provides a personal perspective on Sorokin the man and his works.
My email is brandeis106@gmail.com. Please feel free to contact me with comments or inquiries about Sorokin. I have collected a great deal of materials such as books and articles in both electronic and hardcopy format.
A bibliography of Mr. Smith’s published articles, journalism, books reviews, translations, etc. is posted below as Word document:
